We all have an inner goddess - a radiant, intuitive force within. Sometimes, this inner light aligns with a Goddess from a spiritual tradition, reaching out to guide us on our path. But how do we discern when seemingly random coincidences are actually a Goddess calling? This article explores how to recognize, respect, and respond to these sacred signs.
The Goddess is Calling : Have You Noticed Synchronicities?
Synchronicities are moments when it feels like the universe is sending you a sign. You may repeatedly encounter a Goddess's name, symbol, or image in unexpected places - even outside of your normal religious practice.
For example, you could see a portrait of a lioness at your local coffee shop and suddenly think of Goddess Sekhmet or Goddess Durga. These moments usually present with a feeling of mysticism, as if they're gentle nudges from the Goddess who has come to mind.
Are these repeated instances sheer coincidence? Your gut feeling will tell you. More often than not, this is your Goddess calling.
The Importance of Respectful Worship
If you feel called towards a deity, you might explore whether she belongs to a closed practice. Not all faiths allow their deities to be worshipped without proper initiation.
Start by seeking guidance from spiritual leaders, community elders, or reputable sources to ensure your spiritual practice is respectful & free of cultural appropriation. Building an authentic relationship with the Goddess begins with honoring the culture from which she originates.
Is it Time to Start Building a Relationship with Your Goddess?
You'll know a Goddess is giving you the green light when signs seem too repetitive to be coincidental, feel a magnetic pull towards her image, or feel her presence in meditation or dreams. These interactions should feel uplifting and warm - never dark or intimidating.
If you're new to spirituality or find yourself feeling skeptical, start small. Start keeping a note on your phone or in a journal recording the synchronicities. How often have you seen the symbols, images, or felt the presence of your Goddess?
My Personal Experiences with Goddess Lakshmi
When I was called to deepen my spiritual practice, I found myself being drawn towards Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of abundance and beauty.
There were so many synchronicities! Her image popped up on social media apps without me searching for her, I was seated beneath her portrait in a restaurant while on vacation, and even found her statue at a rural nursery - far from any Hindu temple.
Although Hinduism is an open religion, I wanted to ensure I was venerating Goddess Lakshmi the right way. For over a year, I regularly visited a Hindu temple near my home where the priests were kind enough to teach me about her history. I also created art to honor her which helped me remember the cultural significance behind her depictions.
Everyone's journey will be unique, but hopefully my story has given you a glimpse of what your experience could look like.
Answering the Call of Goddess Energy
Answering the call of Goddess energy begins with respectful worship. If you have an altar, you can make offerings to your Goddess described in their mythology. For example, if you're honoring Venus/Aphrodite, you may choose to offer a beautiful sea shell, copper, or something sparkling.
It doesn't have to be complicated. Some Goddesses can be honored simply by facing in one of the eight directions during prayer. Goddess Lakshmi, for example, is typically worshipped while facing Southeast.
Other times, your Goddess may want to keep things private. Your intuition will tell you when this is the case.
Conclusion
In times of uncertainty, we find ourselves drawn to the spiritual path, seeking solace and strength. In these moments, Goddesses step forward to assist us and offer support through quiet synchronicities. All we have to do is answer their call with devotion. With respectful worship, we begin to see their qualities are reflections of the divine force within us. Tell me in the comments below. What signs have you noticed lately? Is your Goddess calling?
